As I sit in my favorite coffee shop almost 3 months after returning from Scotland, I’m finally catching a short break from our editing work and have a chance to revisit the trip that changed my life.

When I was young I was obsessed with castles and I even had a poster of Edinburgh Castle on my wall. When we started our business in 2009, I said that my goal would be to photograph a castle wedding in Scotland. About a year and a half ago that dream became a reality when Kerry and Corey hired us to fly out and document their epic Edinburgh wedding.

In so many ways this trip was self-actualizing. Not only was this a defining moment in our careers, but it created personal memories that will always be cherished.

We were in Scotland for 8 days and according to my Apple Watch, we walked about 60 miles and climbed about 160 flights. The Weather was unusually warm, meaning it was 75 degrees and sunny every day.

We walked all over Edinburgh and visited Edinburgh Castle. We visited the Highlands twice. I drank a lot of Scotch and Steve drank a lot of… Corona. We ate lots of European food including so much gelato. We climbed Arthur’s Seat and visited the Cafe where J.K Rowling wrote Harry Potter. We spent time in our airbnb watching UK programming and eating bad takeout and shortbread. We ate Scottish tablet, which is basically what would happen if caramel and cookie dough had a baby. And we drank so many lattes…

We will always be appreciative of this trip, of the memories created, the lessons learned, and of the milestones in both our professional and personal lives. Thanks again to Kerry and Corey and to Ellen at Greater Good Events who set all of this up.

❤️ Julianne
